Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA) is an orthopedic procedure developed in the late 1950s, by the osteopathic profession, for the clinical purpose of aggressively treating chronic / acute neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) pain and joint fixation.
Perhaps you had a fall, or tried carrying an object that was too heavy for you. You know the discomfort you felt following one of these injuries. Maybe since then, you have continued to suffer with back and / or neck pain. Or possibly, you had back surgery but now suffer from what is called "failed back surgery". If any of these situations sound like yours, you may be a perfect candidate for MUA.
MUA consists of placing the patient under light sedation (conscious anesthesia). Once under, a Chiropractic Physician performs a series of osseous manipulations to the appropriate regions of the spine. The Chiropractic Physician will then perform a series of deep muscle and tendon stretches to the involved muscles and joints.
Our Medical Staff specialist works with your family physician to make sure that all appropriate treatments, as well as proper neurological and orthopedic diagnostic work ups have been considered. Our clinical staff and your family physician will design a pre and post care program individually tailored to your specific needs.
If you think you have any of these conditions feel free to contact us for more information or to speak with one of our specialists by calling 312-944-2929.
