Disc Nucleoplasty
For many people, low back pain can have many causes, but frequently the problem is a contained herniated disc. When a disc is herniated it expands beyond its normal size, forming a bulge. If it is close to the nerves, it will likely cause pressure that results in mild to severe pain in he lower back and /or leg.

The pain can be relieved by rest, medicines, injections, or physical therapy, unfortunately, this does not always help. In the past, people who did not respond to conservative treatments were forced to consider major back surgery with weeks or months of recovery time.

What is Disc Nucleoplasty?
Disc Nucleoplasy is a significant medical advancement for treatment of contained herniated discs. It is minimally invasive and a fast treatment that requires only local anesthesia and a mild sedative. View a video here (MPG file).

How does it Work?
The procedure is like having an epidural steroid injection. First, you will be given a local anesthetic then your doctor will insert a needle into the center of the herniated disc. The needle emits radio waves that dissolve excess tissue, reducing the size of the bulge. This relieves the pressure inside the disc and also on the nerves.
